Five can’t-miss activities at Jump Start 2019
Authored by SMC³ on January 15, 2019
SMC³’s educational supply chain conference Jump Start 2019 is chock full of panels that provide the information shippers, 3PLs, carriers and other members of the transportation and logistics arena need to start 2019 on the right foot. During the three-day event, which begins on January 28 at the Renaissance Waverly Atlanta, industry stakeholders will be exposed to a wealth of knowledge from logistics technology leaders, supply chain analysts and transportation experts.
With so much going on in a three-day window, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, so we’ve gathered a list of the top activities during the conference.
- Congressional Chat
Congressman Drew Ferguson starts the activity at SMC³’s Jump Start 2019 by exploring the hurdles to rebuilding U.S. infrastructure. Ferguson, who sits on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, will connect a campaign season filled with talk of infrastructure and supply chain improvements to the current political realities of Washington. He’ll talk through credible infrastructure proposals on the table, and explain how the government can work in 2019 to advance U.S. infrastructure.
“U.S. Infrastructure – All Options are on the Table.” January 28 at 9:30 a.m.
Live streaming will be available for this session on SMC³’s Facebook.
- Successful Partnerships
Have you ever wondered what goes into a true supply chain collaboration – a partnership where all parties are working toward a common logistics goal? Every year, SMC³ and Logistics Management select the top collaborators in the supply chain arena in order to celebrate their success. Attendees also get to learn about the challenges and benefits of logistics partnerships when the winners take the stage for a lively discussion. According to LM, these companies exemplify “how shippers and their service providers work together to overcome challenges to critical components of their unique supply chains.” There’s no better education than learning from the best.

- Quick Discussion
If you’ve ever stepped foot in a typical meeting, you know that not a lot happens within the first seven minutes. With Ignite Speed Meetings at Jump Start 2019 that knowledge no longer applies. Each year, we reserve an afternoon for a unique brand of lightning-round meetings with the goal of giving participants access to as many logistics and supply chain companies as possible. These meetings are a great place to develop new contacts and create lasting partnerships.
Ignite Speed Meetings. January 28 at 4:30 p.m.
- Future Tense
ARC Advisory Group’s Steve Banker will drag out his crystal ball to distribute supply chain fortunes. Banker might not be a soothsayer, but during his panel, he’ll look at how modern supply chains are entering another wave of technological progression. What does this move toward greater levels of sophistication in addressing multimodal solutions look like, he’ll ask the audience. Be sure to attend for the answers.
“A Future of Disruption – the Next Decade’s Top Predictions.” January 29 at 9 a.m.
Live streaming will be available for this session on SMC³’s Facebook.
- Pricing Pedagogy
Part of SMC³’s continued educational events, “LTL 203: Carrier Pricing & Carrier Costing” will teach attendees the ins and outs of how carriers determine freight charges. Instructors leading the special section, which carries a separate fee to attend, will share vital insight into topics like LTL pricing models, classification basics, base rates and gross rates, and trends in LTL carrier costing.
