Five can’t-miss activities at Jump Start 2018
Authored by SMC³ on December 19, 2017
The educational supply chain conference Jump Start 2018 is geared toward providing the information shippers, carriers, logistics service providers and other members of the transportation arena need to start the year on the right foot. During the three-day event, which begins on January 22 at the Loews hotel in Midtown Atlanta, industry stakeholders will be exposed to a wealth of knowledge from logistics leaders, supply chain analysts.
With so much going on in a three-day window, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, so we’ve gathered a list of the top not-to-be-missed activities during the conference.
- Boss Talk
In a Jump Start exclusive, we’ve brought together the supply chain leaders James Welch, CEO of YRC Worldwide, and Beth Whited, executive vice president and CMO of Union Pacific Railroad, for an in-depth chat about the road ahead. Welch and Whited will explain, from a carrier’s perspective, disruptors, challenges and trends likely to arise in the next year. Get ready to gain valuable insights you won’t hear anywhere else from this panel.
“A Year of Disruptors: C-Level Executives Analyze Challenges, Prospects.” January 22 at 9:30 a.m.
- Total Collaboration
Winners of the 2018 Alliance Award, presented by SMC³ and Logistics Management, will take the time during this panel to truly walk you through supply chain collaboration and get to the heart of what makes a winning partnership. Each year, the award is given out to a groups of companies that, as the magazine puts it, exemplify “how shippers and their service providers work together to overcome challenges to critical components of their unique supply chains.”
“Supply Chain Collaboration @ Work.” January 22 at 11:15 a.m.
- Gridiron Networking
Mercedes-Benz Stadium is the newest NFL stadium, and during this networking event, you’ll get an up-close look at the most technologically advanced sports stadium out there today. It’s not all about football, of course; during the networking event, you can continue the day’s panel discussion in a more informal environment, exchanging ideas and business cards in one of Atlanta’s latest landmarks.
“RISE UP! Jump Start Networking Event.” January 22 at 3:30 p.m.
- Speedy Deals
What can you accomplish in seven minutes? If you talk to people who have conducted deals at our previous Ignite Speed Meeting Sessions, the answer might surprise you. Each year, we reserve an afternoon for a unique brand of lightning-round meetings with the goal of giving participants access to as many logistics and supply chain companies as possible. These meetings are a great place to develop new contacts and create lasting partnerships.

- Talking Shop
On the final day of the conference, Blair Anderson, Amazon’s director of transportation public policy, and former Secretary of the Department of Transportation James Burnley will discuss transportation regulations in the Trump era. This is a great opportunity to hear about some of the key rules coming down the pike that will truly impact your supply chain business.
