Behind the scenes at SMC³ with Tana Sumner

As SMC³’s talent acquisition specialist, Tana Sumner is responsible for recruiting new talent to SMC³. She recently took time out to discuss her role, the company culture, and what potential candidates can expect when they join the SMC³ team. Get to know more about Tana in this behind-the-scenes interview.
What’s your area of expertise at SMC³?
I come from the staffing world with over five years’ experience from recruiting to sales and client relations.
At SMC³, I’m heavily involved in recruiting efforts, which includes sourcing candidates, resume searching, scheduling interviews with hiring managers, exploring new ways to find talent, career fairs and using different databases to find compatible candidates. In the near future, I hope to establish new relationships with different universities to help source college graduates for entry level positions and internships.
A big part of my job is to make sure that the candidates’ first impression of SMC³ and our team, culture and vision are nothing short of amazing! I love helping people advance their careers, and providing support and encouragement.
As a new employee, what attracted you to the company?
I have a few friends that have worked for SMC³ for many years and have always spoken so highly of the company. I was finally at a place in my career where I was ready to make a move to find my forever home. I feel like at SMC³, it’s where I belong. I was looking for a company and team that truly cared about the wellbeing and happiness of its employees. I’ve found that at SMC³.
How would you describe the company’s culture? How are employees and candidates expected to uphold SMC³’s mission, vision and core values?
SMC³’s culture is unique. From the very beginning of the interview process, the leadership team is involved. Everyone from the top down is invested in the people joining the organization; they put forth a lot of effort to make sure it’s a symbiotic relationship for both parties. The building, benefits, perks and most importantly the people are what makes this company a step above the rest. SMC³’s core values to value the person, serve the industry and serve with purpose are espoused every day by all our wonderful employees. I’m happy to be a part of it.

When you’re not working, what are some of your hobbies?
I am spending time with my husband, Sumair; daughter Aria (6) and son Zayn (8 months). We spend time riding the golf cart around to different parks, enjoying restaurants (we are big foodies), attending local events, traveling and lots of beach trips and pool time in the summer!
